2010 SLINGSHOT SIDE BITES ISSUES 1 TO 35 ARE BELOW

NORTH-EAST TOURING SEASON...

Issue 35

Myerstown, PA - April 23rd, 2010:  Just a reminder that the northeast's 1st Slingshot Tour race takes place tonight at Linda's Speedway. For anyone heading there for the 1st time there is no direct exit off of Int 78.You must either get off at the Fredericksburg exit off of 78 and take Rt 22 to the Lickdale exit, turn right and go about 100 yards ,turn left and the next right will take you to the speedway.

If coming from 81N get off at the Rt 72 Lebanon exit, turn left, go to light at the Hess Station and turn right on 72. You will go over an overpass, turn right onto AWOL Rd and then another right to the speedway.

For Shellhammers, it is located within throwing distance of PA Rt 61. If coming from the North you will be heading down a hill to the traffic light right before Leesport. You will see a green house and an empty car lot , turn right there, track right past underpass. From the South go past Leesport to same light and turn left.

Rich is planning to make an appearance at both races. Weather issues for Saturday could crop up, please check with speedway before leaving if raining. They have a sign-in time of 3:30 for heat assignments. Plenty of racing action at all the weekly tracks this week. Support a track near you. Snydersville is also running on Friday nights along with the Friday at Borgers. Good luck wherever you decide to go.

MUFFLER INSTALLATION, SHELLHAMMER'S, HAMLIN, BORGERS,

KUTZTOWN, CAROGA CREEK, OAKLAND VALLEY, ATLANTIC CITY,

CAR INSPECTIONS, AND SO MUCH MORE...

Issue 34

Myerstown, PA - April 20th, 2010:  For everyone that has inquired about the mounting of the new muffler here is a photo that we are hoping you get the general idea of the securest way to mount it.

In other news, it's tour time for the MA Region races as Linda's Speedway will host the first tour in the northeast this Friday night at 7 PM. Less than an hour east Shellhammers Speedway will be the second show in a back to back MA Gold Regional weekend with their 5 PM Saturday date.

With Hamlin having a successful opener and Wyalusing Valley ready for the green, the season is fully underway as Oakland Valley has already put events in record books for 2010 with intense action already taking place on the Cuddebackville, NY 1/5 mile. Kutztown is slated for the green on May 12th with the first MA Silver Regional being held there on May 26th.It will be off to Selinsgrove on May 14th with Hamlin getting the backup date on the 15th as the MA Gold Region will have 4 events in the books by the end of May.

It was great to hear that Hamlin had their complete show completed by 10 PM and the Slingshot teams at Shellhammers were on their way home by 8 PM. Caroga Creek is slotted in for the first Empire Region Tour on May 29th with OVDO moving their original date from June 12th to June 5th.

For anyone that is interested in camping at Shellhammers for the Spring Spectacular, it will be allowed. Many race teams voicing their acceptance of the new teching team at Borgers. After seeing a few race results. I noticed that some teams are not registered for 2010. We are asking the tech officials to do random Registration decal checks.

I have been in contact with Bilstein Shocks and they said they are currently on schedule and will be asking for photos of the top runners at weekly tracks as well as the tour races for their website and promo work. I will be submitting a few when the Bilstein's hit the speedways. Slingshot photos have also been asked for the Motor State Parts Catalog and hopefully a few of the photos that I will be submitting will make the upcoming catalog.

To give everyone a chance to be seen by the public, we need the results from the weekly tracks. Currently I have not received anything from Snydersville and with a special section in AARN by Brett Deyo, race and team info can go a long way in getting sponsorships for not only your race team, but a race at your speedway. Please remember to send this to slingshotroundup@aol.com. It will definitely be your loss if you refuse to do so.

Hope to see everyone at Linda's and Shellhammers, if not, please support your local track. Congrats to all the winners last weekend. The weekly winners are being posted on the website now. 2 drivers that get my applause for the week are Stan Friedman who just keeps getting the job done at Borgers and Justin Brewster who notched Hamlin's opening night All Star win as a first time All Star regular. It looks like some of the Juniors that moved up to the All Star Class are contenders already.

Briggs & Stratton have requested a story from me on what some of the Slingshot drivers have moved on to. I will be working on that along with a few other projects. I'm trying to keep the racing world aware that the Slingshots not only prepare younger drivers for the future, but also give the older drivers a chance to stay active and competitive with their choice of auto racing as a hobby.

The MA Gold Tour race at Shellhammers will be using a 15 lap dual heat format with a 25 lap A Main. Payout will be done by car count. Please check their website for track sign-in and hot lap times.

Here is the current plans for Linda's received directly from Tom Chorpenning: The Slingshots will  battle it out in a Briggs & Stratton tour event with a 30 lap feature on the agenda. The Slingshots will go in a single round of heat races with the top qualifiers from the heat races doing a redraw for their feature race starting position. Gates will open at 5:30 with a drivers meeting at 6:40, hot laps at 7:00 and racing at 7:30.

I will be having AARN and AC Indoor Promoter Lenny Sammons on my TV show next Weds. night. I will be discussing the 2011 AC Indoor plans which currently do include the Slingshots and will most likely be designated as a National event.

Ray Nemeth,Jr wanted me to thank everyone for the continued support of Herr's Snack Food products and he is hoping to possibly keep race sponsorships slated for future events. Remember to grab some of their delicious snack products to take to your favorite track or have handy during garage time.

On the subject of food, Hamlin Speedway has become the hotbed of concession stands. Not much in the line of food items is left out at their concession area. Andy and Denise Smith are hoping that the snowflakes made their last appearance there last Saturday night.

The rebuilding process at Borgers is slowly moving along, but the best news was that they actually got the track up and running after the fire last October. Rich and Steve deserve a special thanks from all the teams for proposing an opening day schedule and staying with it.

Action Engineering is really becoming the hotbed of action for the Button Buck racers. Cole Queensland is doing a masterful job of keeping everyone race ready and the car counts could be showing his labor of love this year.

The next rash of inspection stickers will be heading to the Post Office on Thurs. If you are at Linda's on Friday or Shellhammers on Saturday, please contact Paul Lotier,Jr of Slingers Warehouse  if you need your Slingshot inspected. I will have stickers along for everyone that gets inspected at these 2 tracks this weekend.

JUNIOR CARB INFO, HAT SPECIAL, NOT SATURDAY HOURS TOMORROW,

BUTTON BUCK INFO, TIRE RULING INFO...

Issue 33

Myerstown, PA - April 16th, 2010:  For anyone that orders a Junior Carb, please let us know if you want a complete set-up or just the carb itself. In the last 6 weeks many of the orders had to be updated. The Junior Carb set-up will also include the Junior Velocity Stack Adapter, Junior Manifold and the gaskets.

With the sunny weather approaching baseball hats and visors help protect your head and eyes from the sun. Currently the Flex-Fit and Adjustable hats have been selling rather well. The visors are great for the Slingshot mom or the stylin' members of the race team. The hat special for next week will be buy 3, mix or match, hats or visors for 40.00 and I will pay for the shipping. The Flex-Fit come in 2 sizes, S-M & L-XL..

New schedules have gone out with the latest inspection decals. Please take note of some changes as well as Hamlin increasing the payout for their July 3rd race.

Due to no Saturday responses, I WILL NOT be here tomorrow.

For everyone running Button Buck a shipment of parts is heading to Action Engineering. Please check with Cole to get your car ready for the upcoming season.

In an effort to answer everyone's emails regarding the tire rulings, I will try to do this the best I can. Last year Carlisle went on strike, at which time some of the 8.50's that were being made were done at the plant that was shutdown, of which the stock immediately ran out and we had to look for an alternative, that being the 9.50's.Last year 9.50's were on the production schedule 7 or 8 times, but were cut back to 3 as of Jan 1st.,thus creating another dilemma. Rich decision to allow both 8.50's and 9.50's was made because some teams had 1 and not the other, so to keep everyone racing, all legal Slingshot tires were allowed use 8.50's, 9.50's, Sawtooth and 6.50's as well as slicks are all legal for the remainder of the season.

READING FAIRGROUNDS NOSTALGIA NATIONAL IS GOING TO HAVE

A NEW DATE, HAMLIN INFO, BILSTEIN SHOCK INFO, ENGINE SHIPPING INFO,

OWNERS PACKETS, SATURDAY HOURS, & MUCH MORE...

Issue 32

Myerstown, PA - April 15th, 2010:  I just got an email regarding one of the bigger tour races of the year. The Reading Fairgrounds Nostalgia National currently is undergoing a date change. The newly proposed date is now August 9-10 with the format currently staying the same with all qualifying being done on Monday along with the Junior National A Main. I will also be addressing the Junior Payout with Alan Carter, since last year's proposed payout got shuffled in the mix.

This will now make the Speedweeks mini-series points end at Reading instead of the proposed and previously scheduled Greenwood Valley. I'm sorry if this has altered anyone's plans, but the Fair Board just relayed the news to the RFRHS and it was relayed to me. The reasoning is that the Fair must be held in August and the original Saturday was July 31st, which still would not qualify for the plans presented. The Reading Nostalgia Nationals will remain a Super National, MA Gold, MA Silver and a JR. National.

Anyone heading to the Hamlin opener, please check the Hamlin website for the time schedule since kart classes have been eliminated.

The current update for Bilstein Shocks has them on schedule for shipping. There are still 32 available shocks from the original order. It will be 14 weeks from placing the next order when they will be received.

When shipping an engine, please have it in a cradle, if you must borrow one from a fellow race team, please try to do so. Currently UPS is having trouble reading" THIS SIDE UP" and "DO NOT ROLL". If there is no cradle to us, we will use one to ship it back and bill you for it. You will gladly be refunded if you send it back.

I will be mailing out the remaining owner's packets today. We are hoping that everyone checks the Speedway Entertainment website if you still need to register ,look over the current numbers being used. It is 1 # per state, letters can be used.

I will be available for 4 hours on Saturday. If I do not get any response by 11AM tomorrow, I will not open the shop. Just a heads up, I will not be available for any Sat. hours from May 1 through May 15th. Also my present plans call for me to be away the 29th & 30th of April, May 5, 6, 7 and May 14th. If you call the shop and no one answers there is a 5 ring max, please try again in a few minutes if there is no response. We do take FAX'd parts orders. The FAX # is 717-866-7450.

All Slingshot tires will be legal for the remainder of the 2010 season. 8.50's,9.50's,sawtooth and 6.50's. You can mix and match the rears, 6.50's will be the only tire allowed on the front. Aluminum wheel is the only allowable wheel on the RR. Pete Knappenberger is now an official dealer for Super clear Tearoffs. His contact info is- (484) 866- 5235 and he will be at Kutztown weekly. The business name is Chemdudes and they have race lubricants and other products like degreasers and wash soap. Catalogs will be available.

I will be getting out the orders for the Bead Protectors today and tomorrow. I will also look into getting the backordered BP nuts and bolts to everyone.

I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Slingshot Family, but I cannot answer every question about track procedures. I'm also not the most qualified technical person here, but I always try to get an answer for everyone. I realize that many teams have a few secrets in getting around the speedways faster, but if someone asks for some general tips and help, please at least get them through the tunnel, even if it's not on the train. Currently there are 47 new Slingshot teams in 2010 and any help getting them on the speedway is not only appreciated by them, but also the track and us. For starting times check with the speedway. Race rules and procedures are usually brought up at the drivers meeting. Please attend them, if there is something you question, let everyone know and it will be settled, usually right away.

Our dealers also are vastly knowledgeable and depending on location, could be of more service than we can in regards to shipping. Andy Smith at Hamlin, Kutztown, Snydersville and Linda's, Rich Raidline and Steve Heckman at Borgers along with Ron Smykla at OVDO and Accord can help with your problems and needs. Paul Lotier,Jr at Slingers Warehouse has been a big help at Shellhammers and also at Linda's. Billy Maynard has taken the reigns at Wyalusing Valley and will service all teams there. The Florida teams can contact Mark Clauss and Cole Queensland has done a great job in getting a parts inventory for the Button Buck racers. I had requested that the current parts dealer at Caroga Creek take on some Slingshot dealership duties, but talks are still in the working stages.

WEEKEND RECAP FROM REPORTING RACE TRACKS....

Issue 31

Myerstown, PA - April 12th, 2010:  Well the 2010 season is up and running at many tracks. I'm hoping everyone supports their local speedway, a track of their choice or the All Star and Junior Tours. Things have been underway at Snydersville and with a new direction in place, a visit there might make you want to return.

Congrats to Kyle Hieber on his weekend double winning the 50 lap Linda's Speedway opener and capturing the 20 lap SpeedSTR opener at Grandview. A special thanks to all the Linda's drivers in attendance that ran off 44 straight laps of green flag action.

Congrats to Brett Bieber for his win at Shellhammers. The action at the Leesport oval has been hot and heavy with last weeks winner Brad Arnold having to hold off the 2009 Shellies champion Bieber for the opening day win. Please remember that Pre-Entries will be accepted for the Spring Spectacular on May 30,paying 2000 to win with the top 15 lock in by time trials.

Long time campaigner Matt Ritter has sold his equipment to Pete Knappenberger and the number will remain the 02 in honor of Pete's father's modified # 02. Pete's father, Roger, was a former Freedom 76 winner at Grandview. Matt's new occupational venture will keep him away from the racing, but all our best wishes are extended to Matt in his newfound career.

Looks like a new sheriff was in town at Oakland Valley on Sat. as "Flyin" Fred Cannock secured an OVDO Hat Trick winning both heats and the A Main. Fred, one of the nice guys in Slingshot racing got his season off to a flying start.

It's Opening Day at Hamlin this weekend with next week being the Pit Stop Challenge qualifier (top 2) for the Firecracker 100 on July 3rd.This race is slated to pay 2000 to win with 30 cars starting the 100.Randy Smith and track crew have been working night and day to put the best racing surface under all the competition. Interest in the Hamlin Super Class has increased with quite a few spectators realizing their age or weight will not deter them from racing.

Things are getting bigger and better at Button Buck with many teams preparing for the 2010 season at the Minnesota speed plant. The 9 / 4 Hartland National could see a trip westward by a few teams looking to garner added National Points for the Elite 11 National Championship. Many of the younger drivers at Button Buck have shown that the talent is there and the Pee Wee Class and Junior Class have become fan favorites each week.

Borgers Speedway has graciously accepted the requests for weekly teching and it has made for some exciting and intense racing at the Saylorsburg speed plant. More news on the West End Fair dates will be sent out as received.

The Florida racers go into a stretch of races that will separate the men from the boys as current hot shoe Jason Ford looks like his offseason maintenance program has paid huge dividends.

Don't forget that Kutztown gets underway on May 12th with both All Star and Junior Class racing. For anyone on the borderline about attending during the midweek school season. They start promptly at 7 and the checkered is usually thrown on the evening between 8:45 and 9:30.Please remember at sign-in to specify if you are an All Star or Junior driver.

Accord Speedway has not released a schedule yet, other than the Aug 11th Empire Region race. Hopefully the news will reach me shortly.

Another reminder all race results or team news can be sent to Brett Deyo at slingshotroundup@aol.com.

The website driver roster has been is up to date. If your name is not listed, you must register your car # and driver.

I have explained countless times where the money goes, but will give a brief rundown. Some of it pays me for the year. I am responsible for parts shipments, answering your phone calls, getting the owners packets and inspections out to everyone. I also schedule the tour races and keep the tour points up to date. I send press releases to various media outlets. Money goes back into race sponsorships at the tracks, the tour purses and the upkeep of the website which everyone has most seen at least once in their lifetime. I will continue to send out emails, many of which could contain weather updates for teams planning on traveling. I worked hard to get Rich from increasing the costs for this year and I will continue to do so for next season.

Some parts have been increased. I will do an updated parts list on the 15th and make sure it goes out as an email to all on the group list.

Congrats to all weekly winners the past weekend. I have received ZERO results from any of the tracks. I will devote part of my early Monday time into trying to put a recap together for the website and also Brett Deyo is asking for track and team news for the Slingshot Roundup at slingshotroundup@aol.com. We are trying so hard to get your track and race team info to the public, but we are not going to do cartwheels and somersaults for you to let us know what happened or what is coming up.

Linda's opens this weekend, Hamlin has a test and tune, Shellhammers and Borgers has week 2. Oakland Valley and Caroga Creek get their seasons up and running soon. Please check out track websites for pit fees, times and events run. Kutztown opens in 5 weeks, please check with Janelle on the Raceceiver deals.

TIRE UPDATES, PLUS FLYWHEEL ADVICE...

Issue 29

Myerstown, PA - April 7th, 2010:  Here we go, to answer all questions about tire use and for everyone that has tires to use up. All tires will be legal until at least May 31st. You can run 8.50's, 9.50's,sawtooth, slicks on the RR. Some tracks will not allow the saw tooth's please check with tracks regarding use. Air pressure rules will still be effect. Valve stems must be outward for air pressure checks. You can mix and match on the rear.6.50's will be the only tire allowed on the front. All bead protectors have passed inspection and are being shipped to us as I'm typing this.

To help solve the recent flywheel key problems here is what we are asking from everyone to eliminate your problem  1.DO NOT put oil or any lubricant on crank before installing flywheel. Tighten nut to 145 FT. LBS  2.Tighten clutch bolt to 45 FT. LBS.  3.Gap coils to .010  4.Use Blue Loctite on intake bolts.  This should solve many of the recent problems regarding flywheel, flywheel key and clutch bolt problems.

KUTZTOWN NEWS, HAMLIN, BORGERS, WVMP, LINDA'S, OAKLAND VALLEY,

SNYDERSVILLE, SHELLHAMMERS, NJMP, SPEEDSTR RENTALS, & MORE...

Issue 28

Myerstown, PA - April 2nd, 2010:  The one-fifth-mile clay oval in the shadows of Kutztown University opens its gates for the '10 campaign on Wednesday night, May 12. Slingshots return as weekly divisions at the Berks County track. Joining program this year are the Junior Slingshots, which will be featured on 11 occasions including the May 12 lid-lifter. Slingshots will be required to use Raceceiver's one-way radio systems. The Raceceiver's radios will be mandatory beginning Opening Night. "Using the Raceceiver's should get the cars lined up quicker and keep the show rolling." Raceceiver's radios are available for purchase at the majority of area speed shops. Locally, Hoffman Bros. Speed & Performance of New Tripoli, Pa., offers Raceceiver's for $99 plus tax. B.F.P Specialty of Bethel, Pa., sells the Raceceiver plus the earphones in a kit at $135 plus tax. The Briggs & Stratton Slingshot Tour visits Kutztown twice this season, first on May 26 and again Aug. 19. The Junior Slingshot Tour will join its elder counterpart on Aug. 19. All activities during Fair Week will be dedicated to the memory of racing photographer Bill Hess, who passed away earlier this year.

Randy Smith is currently at work on preparing Hamlin Speedway for it's 2010 season. Borgers' Speedway will have their opener this weekend along with racing at Snydersville, Oakland Valley Dirt Oval is also slated for track time this weekend. Shellhammers will be holding their double points opener on Saturday with Wyalusing Valley putting together an aggressive Saturday night schedule this season. Check out their website at www.wvmpracing.com. Linda's Speedway will be giving the Slingshots hot lap sessions tonight and be ready for opening night with a 500 to win race next Friday

The NJMP Combo Show is being held the same weekend as the ARCA race. We are trying to schedule all Slingshot events in an orderly fashion to allow everyone a chance to watch the headlining class on the big track. The race admission for the tri-oval race on Saturday and the road course Pit Challenge 40 on Sunday covers the admission to watch the other events. Rich still has openings for anyone interested in renting a SpeedSTR at some of the scheduled races. He is currently putting together a list of available races left for rentals. The first SpeedSTR race will be next Sunday at Grandview Speedway as part of the NEETS Enduro racing. Email me if you have any interest in renting one.

If you are attending Shellhammers and have your Spring Fling entry ready Brenda will be taking them at sign-in. Alan Carter will be getting the Nostalgia National Entry Forms ready for distribution. I will be helping in some capacity, but not to the extent of years past. I will get entry forms out in FAX form, so when they arrive I will let everyone know. There is plenty of lodging in the area, plus they allow overnight stays on the grounds, within reason. Remember that Thunder Valley and Penn Can will be holding events later in the season along with 5 Mile Point penciled in for a few events. The Empire Region events in MA and NH will go a long way in attracting new racers and possible regular Slingshot action. These tour races were scheduled back to back to avoid the travel time and distance so please consider taking in the action at Wachusetts and Jolly Roger Motoparks.

Rich will consider asking the NEETS promotional staff to add the Slingshots to some events for 2010,but Sunday availability and support from our class must be a priority. One final proposal: Slingshot Roundup Info Needed for 2010 Send your track's Slingshot results by email by 6 PM Sunday evening to Brett Deyo at the email address of slingshotroundup@aol.com. Include lap leaders, winner and hometown and a COMPLETE order of finish for all Slingshot classes run. If this is part of the track's press release send the whole release and he will edit it. This news will be used in various media outlets including AARN. The Roundup will be headed to all media outlets by 9 AM Monday morning so get them to Brett ASAP. Here is your chance to put your speedway, it's stars and cars of all classes in front of many race fans and sponsors. We cannot do more than that for you. I will also be listing them on FACEBOOK in the Slingshot by Tobias Class Racing.

2009 Briggs & Stratton Slingshot by Tobias National Champion Cody Kline could be watching the first few event of the new season as he will be recuperating from a broken wrist due to a fall at home. Plans call for an upcoming doctor visit to better understand when his racing season will actually begin. We all wish Cody a speedy recovery and a resumption to the racing wars in the Weaver owned # 59.

This is directly from Bilstein Shocks: They are being shipped from California. I see no reason they won’t be at your shop by the 3rd week of April. I’ll keep you posted if there is a setback, Pat Macaulay, Oval Track Manager, ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America.

Season openers will be coming up at a few tracks. The Florida racers are already in full swing and the addition of Tour events for the Sunshine Region will be coming shortly. Many of the test and tunes that went on this weekend proved to be successful with many teams getting preseason setups done and note taking on gearing and stagger seemed to be a top priority. Please check with the speedways regarding times and events. I will try to let everyone know of last minute cancellations or schedule changes, but contacting the speedway is much more logical than calling me.

Had a chance to talk with 2009 Kutztown Slingshot Champion and 2009 Grandview LM Rookie of the Year Nate Christman and he is looking forward to another season of LM racing at Grandview. He will be getting t-shirts made for this season. So if anyone is a Nate fan or is a t-shirt collector, look him up at Grandview or at Christman Meats on Rt 73 in Oley.

It was a pleasure watching Ryan Smith wheel the # 34 ARDC Midget around the spacious confines of Big Diamond Raceway on Sunday. The weather prevented the features from being run, but they return on May 2nd to make this race up. Ryan will hop into any class of car and give it the best chances of making the field. After watching his runs in the USAC Silver Crown cars at Richmond, he deserves a big time chance.

Kevin Albert made his Grandview small block mod debut for the Open Practice and got both of the 3A's around the high banks in grand style. Kaitie McCardle was getting her family owned # 11 SpeedSTR in on the action as well and showed improvement with each passing lap. Former Slingshot runner Steve Hicks was setting record lap times for the SpeedSTR's as his USA1 seemed to be on rails.

Many former Slingshot racers have become accomplished racers in their respective classes with Kyle Ebersole looking to repeat his championship run at Sundance Vacations Speedway in 2010.Sean Merkel has found his talents behind a dirt modified after a few seasons in a Slingshot. Billy Pauch, Jr and Paul Lotier,Jr have also become winners and contenders in every class of car that they have strapped into.

Young Kenney Johnson is hoping his move into the SpeedSTR's is as successful as the driver's career moves above. Anthony Perrego is planning on taking on the PA hot shoes when the 18 pulls into the pits at Big Diamond this Friday night. Anthony qualified for the prestigious Eastern States 200 last Nov wheeling a Crate Sportsman against the high powered big block modifieds. Making moves in their careers are Kurt Bettler and Mike Glass along with Shannon Smith getting a chance to hop into micro sprints at speedways in the area.

Currently we have engines done for Eisenhard, Myers, S&S, Allen and Timar. There are 8 engines currently at the machine shop. Bob Camps is currently scheduled to have 1 engine ready by the end of the week. We are building a standard engine for immediate sale. If anyone is looking for a new engine as a spare or to upgrade your power plant, we will be scheduling it to be done by the end of the day tomorrow. If you are interested please let me know. It will be listed as a ST60,New Engine Less Carb and if paid by cash or check we will take 53.49 off of the 2078.49 list price. Shipping is extra. We will have Good Friday hours if anyone is interested.

We are not looking for apple cores. We are in need of your clutch shoe cores, whether it be the SE 4 shoe clutch or the Noram 3 shoe clutch. All cores will give you a 6.25 credit for each one. If shipped please include name for proper credit. Brake shoe cores are also needed. You will have 5.00 credit for each core. These are the manual brake cores only, not hydraulic. I will be contacting Bilstein's later today to get an update on the shock order.

An order was just placed for throttle and brake cables. If in stock, they should be arriving by the middle of next week. Openers this week will include Borgers which will not carry any track points. Shellhammers will have a double point show opener. Snydersville will be looking to get their program in this weekend also.

Track payout is not determined by SE. The tracks all have their own payouts, please check with them. I will try to give info on special shows and tour events. Also Blake Tobias will put the major events on the website swirl. Congrats to all Indoor Show attendees and winners. This goes far in attracting sponsors and fans.

TECH OFFICIALS UPDATE, ILLEGAL PARTS, ENGINE WORK,

JUNIORS 3 TIER POINT SYSTEM, OWNERS PACKS, HATS FOR SALE...

Issue 26

Myerstown, PA - March 25th, 2010:  Steve Heckman or the designated tech official at Borgers will be the only authorized inspectors at Borgers Speedway this year. Smith Fabrication is no longer the Borgers exclusive dealer and can no longer be a Slingshot inspector. All track tech inspectors or the authorized dealers are the only permitted Slingshot inspectors.

Jim Strouse will be the tech official at both Shellhammers and Kutztown with Randy Smith (S&S Speedways) being the authorized dealer at Kutztown, Hamlin & Snydersville for 2010. Paul Lotier,Jr at Slingers Warehouse is an associate dealer for S&S and will cover tracks or events that S&S cannot attend which could include Linda's and Snydersville.

We have relayed some items of interest for inspecting and teching to our inspectors and if you are asked to remove a side rail or front bumper to be weighed individually, please be prepared to do so. Also the filling of inside rails has become increasingly popular. If we ask for 1 side of the car to be scaled, please head directly to the scale. The filling of the front axle has been found and that is also illegal. All illegal parts can and will be confiscated and sent to SE. Many teams that call the shop for used engine info should realize that if an engine has not been here for at least 2 years, it quite possibly will need more than a top end rebuild or possibly have illegal parts from unauthorized outside work. One engine was shipped to us for work, only to be found as .080 over by the machine shop. Needless to say it is now a part of our illegal parts inventory.

We are trying as hard as possible to get engines done in a timely manner. For many teams there has been a 6 month break between the end of the season and the start of the season and for some reason, the engine gets here with 2 weeks to go until opening day. Ron and now Rich are trying to keep up with the work, the machine shop has even scheduled an added day for their schedule to try to help with getting your engine back quicker. Please consider getting them to us immediately after your season ends and you will have all winter to be prepared for the racing season.

The Button Buck Juniors will have the same 3 tier point system as all other Juniors with races being scheduled as Junior Nationals and also using their season ending point finish. If there is a track in that area that would come forward in scheduling a race date for Slingshots, it would be designated as their Neutral Track race much as Reading and DunnHill2 will be for the Juniors in this area.

I will be mailing out the remaining owners packets that were just mailed in. If you are listed on the Driver Roster on the website, you are registered and you should have your owner's packet. Inspection stickers are also being mailed out when the completed form comes in.

Slingshot hats are for sale.$15.00 ea for your choice of a red/ black adjustable fit, navy blue Flex-Fit or a visor. Shipping will be $6.00 extra.

ENGINE SHIPPING GUIDELINES, SATURDAY HOURS, TIRES, TRACK UPDATES,

AND MUCH MORE IN THIS ADDITION...

Issue 25

Myerstown, PA - March 23rd, 2010:  Engines must be shipped to us securely and we will have to ship engines back in a shipping cradle which will be charged to your account but will be credited when returned. The recent rash of UPS accidents have resulted in this decision and to make sure all engines are race ready when received we must follow this guideline. It seems that many people cannot read English anymore and when the box says Keep This Side Up, the arrows are usually pointing to the ground. We cannot be held responsible for damages if shipped to us without proper security. Engine work is currently done for the following teams: Rick Allen, VanBlarcom, Welsh, Timar, Haab, Doremus, Miller, Armstrong

I will be here Saturday from 8:15 until 11.If I'm not here exactly at 8:15 don't panic. I take the worse road in AP to get to work. If there is no one here at 11 I will be leaving, but can stay to 11:15 at the latest. Pete Miller from Flemington, NJ will be a designated delivery person for anyone wanting parts brought back to the NJ area. Pickup from him must be worked out. Currently there are 3 teams that have notified me that they will be here. A partial shipment of front tires have arrived. Nothing with the 9.50's yet. There is a chance of a new brand, maybe known tomorrow.

I will not be here tomorrow. It will be my day off. Remember that the phone goes to voice mail after 5 rings. There might be someone on the other line and we cannot get to your call as dialed, so please try again in a few minutes.

Plenty of tracks getting action underway this weekend. Check out track schedules for more info. Linda's, Shellhammers, Snydersville and Borgers will all have either test & tune sessions or actual racing action this weekend. Please check with the speedways for their upcoming plans.

Pete Knappenberger's Racers Roundtable is always looking for listener calls or emails. Get in on the local racing happenings. The show will be on a 2 week sabbatical due to Big Diamond's opener on Sunday and Easter Sunday next weekend.

The Florida racing scene is again being put in the spotlight as a few more tracks are scheduling Slingshot exhibitions in an effort to bring them in as a regular class.

Had a recent call with the Penn Can promoter Reed Miller and he would like race teams planning on taking part in his Labor Day Small Car National to give the speedway a call. I had told him I had about 14 teams already interested in racing, but a call or email from the teams personally would make things run a little smoother.

Congrats to Kevin Predmore, Jr. for the Best Appearing Car Award presented to the 58JR crew at the Middletown Race Show. Had a chance to watch 2008 Slingshot Champion Billy "the Blast" VanInwegen take on the northeast's best at the Icebreaker 50 at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday in his # 23 big block modified. Some handling issues prevented Billy from making the A Main but he had a nice 10th place showing in the Non-Qualifiers Special. Slingshot rookie Joe McCardle was just notified that he has qualified for the Pepsi Challenge Bowling Tournament. It is very rewarding just to qualify. Good luck in the next round Joe. I experienced that with both my daughter and son a few years ago. A lot of bowling reps are there to offer advice and also scout future Olympic and college talent.

FLORIDA NEWS, TALLADEGA, SHELLHAMMER'S, LINDA'S, BORGERS, CAROGA CREEK,

5 MILE POINT, WVMP, DUNN HILL 2, AND MORE NEWS!

(Issue 24 / 03.16.10 )

Myerstown, PA - March 16th, 2010:  The Sunshine Region is growing by leaps and bounds and the interest in central Florida for Slingshot racing is spreading to not only owners, drivers and fans, but now to tracks. Dirt Devils Speedway and Sumter County Motopark have included the Slingshots as a regular class in 2010 so much that they will be able to use these track finishes towards National points. Jason Ford took feature win # 1 at DDS with his red # 428. 2 regional's and an added national are being scheduled. If anyone is planning a vacation in the Sunshine State and is interested in racing, a rental might be available. Check with Mark Clauss at www.floridaslingshots.com for arrangements.

If anyone is interested in finishing the National Point season at the Talladega Short Track ,please let me know. There is a chance of obtaining 2 dates in late October there with 1 night on the 1/5 mile and the next night on the 1/3 mile. I need to have a count by the middle of April. He is asking for a car count of at least 16 to make a go of it.

I have gotten 3 emails asking about steering wheels. Any size, steel or aluminum is allowed. Also some drivers like the butterfly type wheel, we recommend the round wheels, but there is nothing to stop you from a butterfly style wheel.

Shellhammers has a deadline for early entry fee mailings, please be sure you have them in to Brenda to avoid the late fee.

Linda's and Borgers will be opening for their test and tune days, please remember ,it's a test and tune not a slam and bang.

Caroga Creek has moved their JR. Nat. from August 27th to August 20th.

It appears that 5 Mile Point would like the Slingshots back for their midweek runs on the inner loop track. The lack of publicity for last year's races will hopefully be avoided and we can give everyone dates if they plan on giving it a try.

Billy Maynard at WVMP wants everyone to know that they made the switch to Saturday nights and will ready for the dual track combo show on July 10-11 with DunnHill2 Speedway.

To clarify the Junior National age limit questions. We are not using the 8-13 limit, but the track legality age which at some tracks is up to 15.We are still staying with the only 1 class per night. If you run the Juniors, you cannot run the All-Stars the same night a Junior National event is run.

If anyone needs a Quick Balance on parts and engine spending for taxes in 2009,please let me know. I will print a balance sheet from '09 and FAX it to you. I will not mail it, so you will need a FAX # to get this.

I will not be here this Saturday. I will be at Selinsgrove hopefully enjoying the first outdoor racing weekend for 2010.I am planning on being here the 27th,but since I will helping at Grandview Speedway for their practice, I need to be out of here by 11 AM. I'm currently looking at 8 AM till 11AM but no later for the 27th.

A material mix-up has set back the production of the bead protectors. I have all orders on file and will get them out as soon as I get the pieces.

I currently have 6 ST5111-2 Rear Axle Bearing Housing Only, normally priced at 24.56.A quick special for these 6 will be 20.00 each + shipping. First come, first served. We need the room for the complete housings & bearing that were ordered.

THE TIME WILL COME..... 3 CHOICES OF NEW SLINGSHOT HATS HAVE ARRIVED

(Issue 23 / 03.11.10 )

Myerstown, PA - March 11th, 2010 (Issue 23):  In this day and age when everyone wants to find a gray area in the rules and thinks they can build a better mousetrap, it will soon come time when a ZERO Tolerance will be levied on all teching. If it's close to legal, but not legal it will not pass tech. If the only way you can win is to cheat, I pity you if you are cheating and can't win. Maybe you better hire another driver. The crackdown has begun. Rich will be hosting a few tech officials in what to look for, what should be teched and general items such as Durometer checks and engine teching. The new mufflers will be getting stamped or possibly laser engraved in the future.

We will be checking tire stamping and quite possibly be getting a few new tire stamps to mix up the orders occasionally. Tire pressures can be checked using the gauge that will be used that night. Check your tires with the officials gauge for accuracy. Everyone will be checked using the same gauge. Weight will remain at 760,not 759. The best way to remedy a car close to weight is have it scaled before you race, everyone will be crossing the same scale, so it is fair for everyone.

We appreciate everyone that takes the time to maintain and race a Slingshot, we respect your driving abilities and your loyalty to a speedway or the tours, but we want everyone that races to be on the same playing field.

We do have the right to confiscate parts, engines and even cars if need be. Read the Rule Book. If you don't have one. I'll email a copy to you, so you do have one.

I could get nasty and make public everyone caught cheating during the season and what the infraction was, but I'm hoping it doesn't get to that. Be safe, be ready the good weather has to be here soon. There are a couple of events that could be of interest to a lot of you, that are still being worked out. In an effort to get the engines rebuilt or checked in a timely manner, Rich is doing the engines here for seal checks or minor work and Ron is doing the rebuilds and over bores. NJMP is trying to get the driver age lowered for the August 14 / 15 events. Scott Paape is talking with the State Police regarding driver protection compared to a 8 year old karter.

Here are the 3 choices for hats. The red and black adjustable. I ordered 36 of them The off blue Flexfit 2 sizes S-M and L-XL There are 12 of each The visors have no back printing. I ordered 12 of those. The back of the red and black looks like the back of the blue one and the blue one has the front like the red and black one. Any of the 3 are $15 each + shipping. Checks must be made to me or CC will be run through PayPal.

GREAT LAKES 2010 TOUR SCHEDULE & MORE, PENN CAN PLANS FOR

2010 LABOR DAY RACE MOVING ALONG, READING & DUNNHILL 2 INFO

(Issue 22 / 03.08.10 )

Myerstown, PA - March 8th, 2010 (Issue 22):  Button Buck has announced their 2010 Slingshot Tour schedule and the current dates for their regional events are June 12, June 26 ,July 17 and Aug 14. Their major National will be held on Sept 4 as part of the Hartland National weekend. Their Junior National will also be slated for that weekend. The Great Lakes Region champion will be honored at the 2010 Awards Banquet along with the track champions on January 8th at the AACA in Hershey with the Elite 11 and Great 8 honorees.

I have just made 2 contacts today, one being with Penn Can management regarding the plans for their Labor Day weekend Small Car Nationals of which the Slingshots have been invited. Currently I have received emails and calls from 15 teams expressing an interest in this program. They are taking this week to work out all arrangements regarding payout, sponsorship, entry fees and pit pass costs. The projected payout will be based on car count and will be substantial to obtain more entries.

The other was to get the update for Reading, I will be looking into helping get the ball rolling earlier this year and try to keep everyone aware of progress for track improvements and a possible test and tune day for everyone to get a set-up ready for the 2 day event for All Stars and the 1 night run for the Juniors. This is 1 of the 2 neutral track races for the Juniors along with DunnHill2 Speedway.

BILSTEIN UPDATE, PIT SPOTS, POINT SYSTEM FOR JR NATIONALS,

UPDATE ON CURRENT ENGINE & MACHINE WORK, 2010 BANQUET PLANS

(Issue 21 / 03.05.10 )

Myerstown, PA - March 5th, 2010 (Issue 21):  We are currently at the 1/2 way point with Bilstein pre-sales. There is currently 204 shocks on the pre-order list. The initial run is to be 400.Still accepting the deposit of $45 per shock ordered.

Please contact the speedway that you are planning on running about reserved pit spaces. We have no control over how the speedways run their pit parking.

We are using the 3 point system for the Junior Nationals this year,33% from the home track points,33% from the individual Junior National tour races at each track and 33% from the 2 neutral track races. This seems to be the fairest way of crowning the Junior National Champion.

Update on engine work. Currently on the teardown table are Pete Miller and Shollenberger (2). Currently at the machine shop are Nicholas, Doremus, Weisenfluh, Paulson, Schlosser, Timar and Cosgrove.

Rich has made plans for the 2010 Awards Banquet to be held on January 8th,2011 at the Antique Auto Museum in Hershey, PA. I will be contacting local motels for prices and discounts for banquet attendees that require overnight accommodations. As far as any other plans, regarding food and drinks, that is being worked out. Alcohol cannot be transported in or out by the banquet attendees. The banquet must end ay 11 PM. For anyone that would like to get a quick idea of what to expect, please go to : www.aacamuseum.org. Looks like a place to spend a whole day and look at the history of the automobile as well as bus and motorcycle transportation. It is also about 1.5 miles from Hershey Park and Chocolate World.

EMAILS, OWNERS PACKETS, KUTZTOWN INFO,

WALKILL INFO, CAROGA CREEK INFO, WYALUSING INFO,

SHOP HOURS FOR THIS SATURDAY & MORE

(Issue 20 / 03.04.10 )

Myerstown, PA - March 4th, 2010 (Issue 20):  With the 2010 season soon in full swing, I will hopefully be getting news to everyone regarding upcoming events, racers specials, points update, congratulations, driver accomplishments and other news in general. I also try to get rain outs to everyone if I know soon enough to make it worthwhile. If you do not want to receive any more emails, please respond back to me. I'm not a mind reader and some drivers that have moved on still enjoy receiving emails ,in case they have a chance to locate a ride for a big race or news of a big race coming their way and still have interest in racing a Slingshot.

I'm mailing a few owners packets out a day, please do not call the shop. If you see your name on the Slingshot Driver Roster, it will be heading to you shortly.

Kutztown Fair Speedway is hoping to beat Mother Nature this year after 2 seasons of less than 10 week seasons. Kerry Meitzler, Janelle Stump and Pete Knappenberger have put an aggressive schedule out which includes the Juniors as a regular weekly class. Please at least give it a try 1 week, you might be returning for the rest of the season. With a regular night of Weds, and a show that is usually completed by 9:30.this doesn't conflict with any other racing schedule for the Slingshots, so please give it a try. The season ending National at Kutztown will see the winner taking home 1200 with a 30 car entry. The Junior National will also see 100 to win and all heat winners in the All Star and Juniors will take home added money. A K-Town Challenge will also take place with the top 10 in points taking on each other in a round robin format with the winner moving on and the loser pitbound.100 to win for the All Stars and 50 to win the Juniors with each race having money added. For more K-town info or sponsorship proposals contact Pete at pjkp@rcn.com.

Walkill Slingshot Club will be reworking the speedway to make it bigger and wider. Schedule plans will be known soon, but they have currently accepted August 22nd as the Pit Stop Challenge 100. Caroga Creek will be putting their PSC 100 qualifiers on their website before the end of the week. I will be giving the details and rules for the PSC 100 tomorrow. All track qualifiers will get the top 8 starting spots in all PSC 100 races. Don't forget Wyalusing Valley MP is now a Saturday night track. The Wysox, PA oval will host the first of a back to back MA Gold and Junior National event on July 10 with DunnHill2 taking the closer on the 11th.They are about 20 minutes apart and camping is available.

I will be here on Saturday from 9 to 1 at the latest. I have to be in Wilmington by 5:15,so please try to coordinate arrival time. Currently we have engines done for Christman and Bower. I have submitted an order for the 9.50 tires. They should be arriving Tues. If you have an order and are planning on coming in on Sat., please try to get it to me by noontime tomorrow. Also the remaining 10th Anniversary T shirts are down to S, M & L ,shipping will be on me for the remaining orders.$15 per shirt.

ENGINE NO-NO, MARCH RACERS SPECIAL

(Issue 19 / 03.03.10 )

Myerstown, PA - March 3rd, 2010 (Issue 19):  We just received an engine for repair work that will take over an hour for cleaning to make it ready for complete teardown and repairs. Pieces were found inside the flywheel along with other broken pieces. We realize that it is our job to repair and rebuild engines, but if they continue to come to the shop in this condition, we will have to put a higher cleaning charge onto the invoice. This takes away time from other rebuilds and leak down checks and pushes the work time back possibly delaying your engine work. Please strip down engines if no work is needed on the flywheel, manifold, carb and starter.. You get a 30.00 disassembly discount and the work gets done so much quicker.

Here are a few photos of how we DO NOT want incoming engines to look like.

NEW SHOCKS

(Issue 17 / 02.25.10 )

Myerstown, PA - Feb 25th, 2010 (Issue 17):  The advance popularity of the upcoming Bilstein Shock shipment has given us the opportunity to have a pre-sell on the 1st 400 heading our way. The Bilstein Shocks will sell for $89.21 which is a little over $4.00 more than the AFCO's, but from the extensive testing they will save you that money after just a few races on them. You will be allowed to mix and match Bilstein's with AFCO or run all 4 of each brand. AFCO use will be discontinued after August 15th,2011 so there is plenty of races to use your old stock up.

The pre-buy will limit all orders to 8 shocks. Realistically that is only 50 cars right now and I have gotten that response long before the season started. You will be required to put a 50% deposit on your pre-order. You can purchase any number from 1 to 8 . The next run of 400 will take 14 weeks from the time we submit the Purchase Order. I will be doing a running tab of purchases and from the time I send this out, the orders will be filled as I receive them. To make things simple, the pre-order will be based on $45.00 / shock ordered. Deposit needed 1-$45 2-$90 3-$135 4-$180 5-$225 6-$270 7-$315 8-$360

The Shellhammers Memorial Classic with $2000 to win now has a Pre-Entry Form. They are available at track table display at the Reading show or from me. If the interest or return responses are large I will send it out as a group email. The track point show during Speedweeks will remain on their schedule.

Many emails asking about the track qualifiers for the Pit Stop 100 Challenge races. I will be getting the info from them ASAP. Currently Hamlin has their qualifiers for the PSC 100 listed as 6/26 Caroga Creek,7/3 Hamlin's actual PSC 100,7/10 Linda's qualifier and 7/24 the Walkill qualifier. The Linda's PSC100 will be their Lebanon Valley 100 on Sept 24-25.New Jersey Motorsports Park will be having the PSC 100 on August 15th with a race scheduled on their 1/5 mi tri-oval on Aug 14th.Caroga Creek will be holding their event on Sept 10th as the Walkill Slingshot Club is currently working on finalizing their date.

Special thanks to Brett Deyo and staff as well as Pete Knappenberger and Barry Angstadt for the Small Car Roundtable Discussion last night. Slingshot drivers, Brad Arnold, Kurt Bettler, Kaitie and Joe McCardle were part of the driver interviews. I was given a few minutes to let all in attendance know that we do give back in some way with our contributions to RAACE and SJCRH as well as the scholarship funds for Billy V, Jr's and Matt Reiley's causes as well as the Humane Society.

Randy Smith returns back from FL as the current Sunshine Regional and National point leader. Hamlin is having their rules meeting this Sunday at S&S Speedway. Anyone even thinking about running at Hamlin should attend the meeting. I'm glad to see the response to the Face book group for the Slingshot by Tobias racers. A BIG THANK YOU to Mark Clauss' wife for submitting pictures to the group from the Florida races. I will be at Reading's show the next 4 nights and have the owners packets along.

ST. JUDE'S THANK YOU, HUMAN SOCIETY THANK YOU,

READING RACING REUNION, PLUS OTHER IMPORTANT INFO..

 (Issue 15 / 02.22.10 )

Myerstown, PA - Feb 22nd, 2010 (Issue 15):  I just received a letter from the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital thanking everyone for their generosity at the Awards Banquet. The $500 donation to the SJCR was in honor of Cody Kline's 2009 National Championship and is rightly denoted on the thank you letter.

Our money is helping with the research for Dylan who was diagnosed with a kidney tumor. The research has given him a 70% chance of survival compared to the 15% before he was admitted. Dylan's current condition was noted as him having acute myeloid leukemia and he is now in chemotherapy with prospects getting better with each passing day.

I also got a thank you from the Humane Society for our contribution from the banquet. The money bought dry food and kitty litter for the sheltered animals there.

Anyone heading out to the Reading Racing Reunion this week will see 2009 Kutztown Point Champion Nate Christman as part of the special LM night on Thurs. Nate will also be a guest bartender after the Thurs night festivities. Tonight Rich Tobias will be holding a seminar on open wheel racing with Pete Knappenberger and Barry Angstadt taking the reins for the Small Car Forum Tues. night at 7:30.Plenty to see and do during this weeks event.

Special thanks to Barry Shollenberger, Brad Arnold Racing, Jim Glass / Rick Nicholas Racing and The Wild Child 95 Team of Anthony Schlosser-White for having their Slingshots on display.

I will have the owners packets along with me again tomorrow night and the rest of the week. If you can take a friends or neighbors along it would be a major help. I just got a few back from the Post Office due to the envelope being 1/4" oversize.

As soon as I get the complete Florida rundown I will make it public. I do know that Randy Smith won both Friday night and the Sat Super National with Earl Maxham putting his name in the record books with a Sunshine Region win on Sunday. They are already looking into the planning stages for 2011 and hope to see more invaders heading south.

Speedway Entertainment will not be open this Saturday.

Congrats to all the Linda's Speedway Award winners at their annual banquet last Saturday. Getting special awards were Rookie of the Year Kim Dornblaser, Most Improved went to Kyle Hieber, Sportsmanship Award went to Matt Miller with Mike Fry getting the Hard Luck Award.
