Myerstown, PA - Dec. 28th, 2009 (Issue 68):  The deadline for the Herr's Snack Bowl 25 at AC is soon approaching. Currently there are 19 entries.17 more will fill up our end of the entry list with 4 additional entries being held as alternates. We will have 2010 Registration Forms along for anyone waiting until the race weekend. Please stop by the SE trailer if you are not registered prior to practice time. The 2010 Registration and Inspection forms just arrived and they will be very visible for everyone to see. Herr's Foods will be sponsoring this event. Please try to include a thank you to Herr's in any interview for AARN or Jumbo-tron viewing.

Shop News

Currently there are 24 engines here for work. That is the most since last April. We realize that many of you are hoping to have your cars in the upcoming indoor race shows at Reading and Phillipsburg and that some of you are planning on running AC. We are trying to keep them in order of how they were received. If you are running AC and have that engine here, please let me know. Also if you are looking at picking them up at Motorsports, it would be a big help in making sure we have that along for you to pick up.

Florida News

Rich is planning on staying in Florida for both weekends in Feb. If you want your car transported for either week or both, it will go down for the East Bay Super Winter Nationals and come back after the Slingerweeks at Sumter County on the 21st.For 175.00 your car will be there and be back. You can fly down, drive down or if you are looking to stay both weeks, there is travel room for 2 more with Rich. Please get back to me ASAP. Even if your planning on running Sumter Co., your car will be there waiting. There are no front stretch tickets available for groups at Daytona. They still have onesy-twosy's. The only group tickets available are from rows 31 to 65 on the backstretch at 72.00 ea. East Bay is continuing their Pay-Per-View broadcasts of the complete Winter nationals stop there. It is a great boost for the Slingshots as well as being in front of 6,000 fans for 3 days. Call or email me, there are 2 definite right now and Rich can take 5 cars.

 

A great room offer for the Florida Speedweeks is available at the Wildwood, FL Sleep Inn. They have a great breakfast and the rooms are nice with plenty of TV stations to choose from. The track at Sumter Co. is 20 minutes away. There are a few good eating places nearby. The room offer is 49.99 night with the Florida Slingshot mention when making the reservation. Sumter Co. is opening on Thurs afternoon for anyone getting there and wanting practice Thurs evening. The payout for the 3 day affair will be known shortly. East Bay will use only pit pass money for our payout. There will be NO ENTRY FEES for the Slingshots. You will be there for all events, if you so desire. Thurs night is 30,Fri night is 32 and Sat night is 35.

 

The Slingshots will have a major event at Hendry County Speedway on February 6th 2010...The Slingshots have been added to the Hendry County Winter national line-up.  Ken Kinney  Hendry County Speedway new owner and promoter, known mostly for his Late Model Challenge series has offered the Slingshots several dates in 2010 with payouts to follow. Ken knows of the Slingshots from the demos and recent races held at his track and feels the Slingshots need to be at his track in 2010. Florida Slingshots manager, Mark Clauss is eager to schedule 6 races at the track in 2010 to offer the South Florida teams a place to call home. One of the six races will be a regional race with a 100% payback offered. The other 5 races will have at least a $100.00 to win purse. The details with the schedule are being worked out and will be posted shortly. The February 6th date offers the teams heading south this winter another weekend to race in South Florida.  Hendry County Speedway has offered the Slingshots to show their cars at the South Florida Fair in 2010 so look for us on the Midway again this year. A great job by the Sunshine Region racers getting more tracks, better payouts and increased interest and car counts. Hopefully the Feb racing season in Florida will see many invaders heading south to accept their challenges.

Albany Saratoga adds Thursday night Slingshots in 2010

Albany Saratoga Speedway has offered the Slingshots a chance to race on Thurs from the middle of June until the middle of August. The newly revamped 1/4 mile is looking for a regular group of Slingshot racers for their Thurs night schedule. The events planned will not interfere with any part of the school year for the younger drivers.

Juniors News

For the Juniors there might be some positive news heading your way in the next few days. For your class to continue to grow, we need your support. I have heard from many people that the Juniors need races. There are currently 6 weekly tracks that have the Juniors as a regular class. Shellhammers offered it last year with 2 or 3 cars entering, it was dropped and hopefully race teams will explore new tracks and support the tracks that give the Juniors a place to race.

Slingshot racers come in all ages. Jim Chisholm has been getting the job done at Button Buck Speedway in MN aboard the Mark Chisholm wrenched # 24.Jim's accomplishments for 2009 were the Most Improved Driver and also 2nd in the tough Pee Wee Division. The young Iowa driver is looking to improve on his stellar 2009 season. Jim is working the wheel at ripe old age of  6 YRS. OLD. Keep up the good work.

 

 

DUNN HILL ADDS 2010 TOUR DATE, NAME CHANGE FOR REGULAR

Myerstown, PA - Dec. 22nd, 2009 (Issue 67): DunnHill2 Speedway in Monroeton, PA has graciously added to their 2010 schedule a Speedway Entertainment Day. On July 11th, the roar of all 3 Speedway Entertainment classes will take to the big 1/4 mile with the SpeedSTR's circling the speedway for a 25 lap A Main. Also on the program as a back to back with the July 10th Wyalusing Valley MP tour races will be the MA Gold Tour for the All Star Slingshots in a 20 lap showdown with a neutral track JR. National getting some attention with a 15 lap run to the championship.

In an effort to distinguish the Juniors from the regulars we have come up with a new name for the regular Slingshot class. Instead of it sounding plain and uninteresting and if we had used seniors, makes everyone sound like they are as old as me, we are now calling the former Regular class, the All-Star Class.

Anyone that straps into a Slingshot is special, whether if you are 14 or 84,it takes a special person to be a race car driver and we want to thank you for selecting the Slingshots as a way of advancing a racing career, a way of enjoying racing without spending your food allowances, a way of becoming a driver when no other class could give you the thrills and excitement. It is all appreciated. The All-Star connotation will be used for tour events, national events and weekly events in website use and all other media forms.

 

The Juniors now will have something to look forward to instead of graduating from the Juniors to the Regulars you will now become an All -Star, even though we have many stars in the Junior Class now, it will now be the new class for many of you in the near future. SE will have a display at Motorsports 2010 on Jan 22, 23, 24 at Oaks ,PA's Expo Center, if anyone would like to stop by and say hello. Motorsports is accepting entries for the Miss Motorsports Pageant. If you have that someone that is race knowledgeable and likes photos taken of her, get her entry in today.

 

The steel retainer ring under the fuel cap flange inside of tank must be secure for AC. This will avoid seepage in case of rollover. Rings will be available for free from the SE hauler, if needed. As of 12 / 22 / 09 there will NOT be a fuel cell foam check at AC. SE fuel cells with metal shell are the only legal Slingshot fuel cell allowed. If many of you missed the AC news. The 3rd and 4th turn will now be about 5 feet wider with a corner access instead of driving to the outer wall of turn 3 and heading straight back into turn 4. This should eliminate a lot of the tunnel effect racing in turn 4.

 

A reminder that Shellhammer's Speedway will be holding regular Sat. events for the Slingshots in 2010 and they are asking the Slingshots to be a part of the rules meeting on January 10th at Temple Fire Co. at 1 PM.

 

DUNN HILL, WVMP, & TONS OF INTERESTING NEWS AND UPDATES

Myerstown, PA - Dec. 21st, 2009 (issue 66):  The Bilstein shocks should be arriving the last week of March. You will allowed to run AFCO's until Aug. 15th, 2011, THAT'S 2011, NOT 2010.It will give you a year and a half of use. Mixing and matching of brands is legal..

 

Herr's Foods has stepped forward and will be sponsoring the AC Slingshot Indoor Race. It will be called the Herr's Snack Bowl. Ray Nemeth,Jr is the go to person and should be thanked as well as Herr's for this gracious sponsorship. Herr's is one of the leading snack food makers in the area and their product line can be found at all grocery stores as well as many convenience stores in the PA and NJ areas. Chips, pretzels, corn snacks and cheese curls are a small part of what they have to offer. I just bought a bag of HOT, HOT, HOT Snack Sticks, very tasty and hot. When selecting your snack foods, please think of Herr's first. There is a chance Herr's could also be a part of the Slingshot National at Kutztown. The Herr's Snack Bowl in AC currently has 19 entries. That is a far cry from the 9 at this time last year, so teams are entering early and since the Sammons Motorsports Prod. team has given us a 36 car maximum with 4 alternates, don't delay. If you are a Herr's Snack Food buyer, let me know and I will forward the names to Ray and it will help in letting Herr's know ,that we truly endorse their product as a group.

 

For the winter downtime, if you want to get your racing fix in visit S&S Speedways for some intense indoor racing. If an old man with bad knees can have fun, anyone can.

Banquet ticket sales are currently at 132.I need an approximate headcount on the 31st,please get your order in soon. If you have 2 small groups that want to sit as a larger group let me know. I will try to get everyone seated with friends. Door prize and Chinese Auction items will gladly be accepted. Lisa Gray has contacted me with the donation of 2 Longaberger Baskets and another candle tray. Last year over 280 tickets alone were all awaiting to be picked for the Longaberger Basket. Donations from Christman Meats, S&S Speedways, Team 10 Kata Racing, Lisa VanInwegen and Dave McCullough also made great donations which totaled over 800.00.

 

Banquet photos will be taken by Becky Kosch, Dan Culhane and when time allows, me. Anyone family or friends that want to take photos are always welcomed, just be prepared when it's your time for the photo opp.

 

We were highly commended in Ernie Saxton's AARN column regarding our dress code for the banquet. Not asking for tuxedos or prom gowns but looking presentable in business casual wear will surely do the trick and keep everyone comfortable.

 

A great column by Kyle Hardner on our National Champion Cody Kline in AARN. If you enjoy reading articles devoted to our legion of Slingshot drivers, please let them know that their efforts are not wasted.

If you are an occasional message board reader you took notice that the SpeedSTR's are at Grandview for 8 events in 2010. Currently rentals are available. Also working on getting the Slingshots included with one of the Sunday races.

 

To best answer the requests for DunnHill 2 Speedway, please visit their website. We are following through with the Sat. night July 10th Wyalusing Valley Regional and JR. Nat. with DunnHill 2 also getting the same events for July 11th.The tracks are about 20 minutes apart and camping is available.

 

We will be open on Christmas Eve until 3 PM and NYE until 2 PM.

TOUR SCHEDULE ADDITIONS

Myerstown, PA - Dec. 16th, 2009 (issue 65):  Confirmation for Bilstein Shocks was made official at the recent PRI show in Orlando over the weekend. They will start shipment of shocks the last week of March. AFCO shocks will still be available until that time. AFCO's will also be allowed up to August 15th of 2011.That gives everyone almost 2 full seasons for AFCO use.

 

The Florida racers celebrated their first full season of racing with a banquet honoring all the Sumter Co Motorsports Park racers. Harold Bedell continued his award winning season with numerous awards. The "invaders" have been issued a strong challenge for the 2 weekends of action in Feb. Many of their racers feel they have come full-circle and will send all the invaders home without a win in 6 nights of action. Sweeten, Clauss, Ford, Bedell, Meade, Smith and Maxham all are part of the issued challenge. Last season's events saw, Mike Glass, Lucas Schott and Rich Tobias head north with all the money and hardware, but they said it will not happen in 2010.

 

Many positive replies to the revised Junior National policies. We realize that an 8 year old up against a 14 or 15 year old might seem to be at a disadvantage, but after seeing some of these younger drivers, there is surely no talent drop with age. All Junior rules apply.

 

Please contact the Lantern Lodge if you are looking to make your banquet stay an overnighter. The rooms and prices are unbeatable. For the 81.00 room rate you can have fun and not worry about heading back on the roads until the next day. Please use Speedway Ent. for the room reduction rate. Banquet is January 9th,2010 from 5 to 11 PM.

 

Photographers and writers have been invited to the banquet for award photos and driver and team stories. Dan Culhane is looking to do a local driver story for his Lebanon, PA newspaper. I, along with invited guests will also be taking photos for the website and media outlets. I am hoping Pete Knappenberger will let the world know about the happenings on his award winning radio & internet show, Racers Roundtable.

 

Billy Maynard at Wyalusing Valley MP and Kyle Brightbill at KB Graphix in Lebanon have done some great artwork for many local racers. Billy had a special for his racers at MVMP and we are hoping he will continue the offer in 2010.Kyle has done many of the Slingshot show cars, the banquet and victory lane checks as well as the Champion stars awarded last year. Both businesses would be glad to work with you.

 

Todd Weikel at Weikel Sportswear and Jan Acker at Bob Hilbert Racewear are also 2 fine contacts for your race team apparel needs. Weikel's is based out of Reading, PA and has done our Slingshot Feature Winner hats, t-shirts and sweatshirts the last 3 seasons along with the colorful SpeedSTR schedule shirts. Website construction is always a great way of getting your team, driver and sponsors out to the racing world. Post results, photos, team info and sponsors on a website. Blake Tobias Motorsports can work out a plan to have your team info out to the world with graphics and music, if needed. You can reach Blake at Blake@Tobiasized.com. Blake also designs and prints custom hero cards, in many sizes, as well as business cards.

 

I am heading to Weikel's to pick up the t-shirts later today. They will be here tomorrow if you are in the area and want to pick up a few presents. TOUR SCHEDULE ADDITIONS

Myerstown, PA - Dec. 15th, 2009 (issue 64):  After playing phone tag, we have added a date to the MA Gold and added a JR National Tour race at a neutral track. Since the MA Gold event is now scheduled for Saturday night July 10th at Wyalusing,20 minutes down the road is DunnHill 2 Speedway and they have asked about having a back to back show with WVMP due to it's close proximity.

 

A MA Gold as well as a JR National is now scheduled for July 11th with a late afternoon start. This show will be run in conjunction with the SpeedSTR's as all 3 SE classes will run the same day. Brock Moore, from Dunn Hill 2 wants everyone to know that the payouts are done in cash, no checks and no mailing out of purse money. When the evening is completed, you will be asked to sign for your payout and that is all there is to it.

 

Anyone purchasing a new slingshot through MEI Smallcar with the intent to compete regularly at WVMP will get a credit of $200 toward lettering their car for 2010.  Anyone purchasing a used car, from anyone, with the intent to run WVMP regularly will get a credit of $100.

The Walkill Slingshot Club has plans in place to extend the racing surface in the current turns 3 & 4 and also redesign the turn access off of turn 2 extending it out about 60 feet. The current plans call for Sunday racing in 2010. They plan to have regular weekday test and tunes for anyone wanting track time.

 

The Engine Parts Rebate and the Chassis, Body, Bumpers specials are now over .We want to thank everyone that took advantage of these offers.9 Chassis orders were taken and 29 engine parts rebates were given.

They are working on a new track surface as well as new guardrails. Myerstown, PA - Dec. 14th, 2009 (issue 63):  Just checked out the entry list for AC, currently there are 16 entries. Last year at this time there was 9.Please don't delay in entering. The 2009 entry list had 14 entries in the last week. This year that will find you on the Hold List. They are locking us out at 36 with 3 or 4 as alternates.

 

The Engine Parts Rebate Special expires tomorrow upon me leaving. If anyone still wants to take advantage of this offer, it's open to 5:15 tomorrow.

 

The 250.00 engine work deposit must be paid for all engine work. If your engine work does not exceed 250.00 you will get the difference back. For anyone shipping an engine to us, please use a cradle or if you do not have one, make sure all surrounding space is secured so the engine does not move. Please for your expense and a 30.00 credit, remove the flywheel and starter. Clean your engine before getting it to us. There is a fee for us having to clean your engine to get the work done. Also make sure you remove the oil or have all possible oil exits secured. We just got an engine that UPS could have sent back due to the leaking oil.

 

The Florida excursion items will be your Slingshot, whatever you can fit within it's confines and 2- 3' X 3" Tupperware Tubs for tools and extras. The transportation rental is 175.00 round-trip.

 

Shop hours for Christmas Eve and NYE are 7:30 to 3:00.

 

Banquet tickets have been mailed out, I also have them in envelopes for at door pickups. Please try to get your ticket orders in before the end of the year. I need an approximate count at the end of the year. I will be heading to the hall about 3 hours before the doors open to make sure all seating of 6 or more guests within the same order will be sitting together.
