They base their sales on what is brought in from the race fans and the pits so please visit them first, it goes a long way in the Fair Board giving the ok for future racing there. Camping will be permitted, but no one will be allowed on the speedway after the checkered is thrown for the night except, Dave Cordier and the track prep staff.

Kutztown is also accepting pre-entry forms for the Dutch Classic National on August 19th.Please see Janelle or a track rep. at the pit shack.

Speedweeks gets started in 2 days at Lindas Speedway. Please don't forget the Sparky Spectacular at Hamlin beginning Saturday morning @ 10AM.

The Cordier's have asked me to send this out to everyone regarding the upcoming Speedweek event on the Leesport oval. August 7th - Speedweek event Shellhammers will make this a $300 to win event. (no minimum car count). 20 or more cars entered we will pay $500 to win.

Just got off the phone with Jeff Ulrich, the race director at Selinsgrove and they will work with us on our Friday August 6th Speedweek event. By running a single heat, we will be slotted in right after the karts or between micros. In order to have the early track time, we MUST be ready to race when called. They realize that due to the track change for the 7th ,the teams would like the added travel time or time to regroup for Shellhammers and Reading.

With Hamlin closed on the 7th,the options are opened for the Hamlin regulars, Shellhammers, Borgers, OVDO.

Slingshots will compete in the Dutch Classic, a one-day event set for Thursday (Aug. 19) with time trials, two sets of heats and a 30-lap A-Main paying $1,200 to win and $35 to start. EMPIRE REGION NEWS, SPARKY SPECTACULAR AT HAMLIN, PARADISE JULY 31st RACE ..

Issue 66

Myerstown, PA -July 26th, 2010:  The 2010 Empire Region point chase will have 1 thing in common, when the checkered falls on the last event of the season for the Empire Region racers, it could quite possibly be the first regular tour driver across the line could be the champion. With 4 races in the books and the next scheduled event being August 11th at Accord only 20 points separate the top 3 with 2009 Empire Region Champion ,Charlie Lawrence, not finding victory lane yet. Will Eastman is sitting atop the points chase with 2 wins ,but right now Steve VanValkenburg, fresh off his Wachusetts Park win is anxiously awaiting the trip to Accord. The August 15th Thunder Mtn. show will find the Empire teams trying to get things worked out on the newly added venue, that should see who was taking notes during the hot lap session.

All the staff at Hamlin is inviting everyone to the Sparky Spectacular on July 31 for an afternoon of fun, food and friendship as all proceeds will benefit the Mark "Sparky" Berkenstock, medical fund. The "HOT ITEM" will be your chance to dunk Hamlin promoter and S&S Speedways owner Randy Smith, who will be perched on the hot seat in the dunk tank. Looks like a few more Hamlin personalities could be following Randy into the water as this will be the happening spot along with fun and games for young and old alike with a Moonwalk and other specialty items being planned for the Sparky Spectacular. A special auction with NASCAR items and other things of interest are on the agenda. More info can be found on Facebook or by contacting Megan @ S&S Speedways. Current time for the start of this event is 10 AM. There is also a special table located at Kutztown for donations, big or small, it all helps the cause.

This is not a Slingshot Tour Race, but if anyone is interested in attending it will give you a head start on the October Slingshot National at Paradise. Saturday July 31st at Paradise Speedway in Geneva NY, The Northeast NY. Slingshot & Kart Tour makes stop #3 of the series 50% payout. JR Slingshot. All Star Slingshot. Gates open at 12noon as they will be running their regular karting program at 2 PM on the smaller track. If you are interested in coming up and running the regular karting program as well, the pit pass is good for the entire day!!! Our entire tour race program will be run on the big track and hot laps will kick off at 4PM with the first heats on the track by 5PM. In
speaking with Randy, the track promoter we would like to have the features on the track by 7PM!!! They will be running their big car heats and features after that. We hope to see a good turnout up there as Paradise is putting some serious CA$H on the line. If you can, come out and support the promoters and tracks that support and give back to you, the racer!! If you have any questions about this event or anything else feel free to give me a call (516) 287-0812. Thanks, Eric Miller

WEEKEND THANKS & MORE ..

Issue 65

Myerstown, PA -July 24th, 2010:  I will be personally purchasing something to be sent to Pete Giammalvo and his staff at Wachusetts for taking a virtual swamp and giving the attending Empire teams a race track for the scheduled tour race. A 90 minute downpour left the speedway a muddy quagmire, but Pete and his staff whipped up a track surface and presented a race for the Empire Region drivers. It is a shame that race teams do not want to branch out and try something different. Special thanks to the teams and the Wachusetts staff for efforts unheard of in this day and age of racing. Congrats to Steve VanValkenburg on his Wachusetts win.

Rich would like me to alter the Speedweeks schedule by rescheduling the GVAT event to a later in the season race and to bring that Speedweeks date to Shellhammers. The reasoning is that many teams that follow Speedweeks will head to Selinsgrove, but being GVAT is only 40 minutes away, he wants the teams to be closer to Reading for the Aug 9-10 Super National in case teams need Sunday to make adjustments or have lodging plans and it will limit the travel distance and time for Saturday night. I will be contacting GVAT on Monday and discuss this change of plans with Brenda Cordier at Shellhammers.

Be prepared for a completely new tour scheduling plan for 2011.The Florida Slingerweeks plans for the last 2 seasons has left a positive impression on Rich Tobias and he is looking to help coordinate the 2011 version of Slingerweeks with the Florida Racing Group and participating speedways.

Shellhammers will be holding their last Dutch Country Mini Series race today with the washed out Kutztown show being made up on July 28th.

For everyone looking at the National Points Standings, these are for races only right now. Please remember that the top 4 point races will be combined with your highest point finish total from a region or a weekly track+ average car count added in.

Special thanks to Barry Angstadt on his AARN column that showed what many of the Slingshot teams will be in the hunt for in August with 3 races paying at least 1000 to win. To keep giving back the big money payouts, they need your support as well. SE will be contributing the Tour Provisional money for the Nostalgia National. The formula for provisional's is simple if a driver is 2nd in the MA Silver and 6th in MA Gold, I will use the highest spot at the time of the race for each driver added. If there are 5 different tour reps. attending, we will use all 5 tours.

This is the 2nd of 2 Junior National Neutral Track races that make up 33% of the Junior National Points. The high point finisher after Dunn Hill 2 and Reading will get 120 added to his point total and so on down to 30th,after 30th all drivers will get 20 points in the neutral track category.

UPCOMING RACES AND 2011 ..

Issue 64

Myerstown, PA -July 20th, 2010:  With the economy taking another turn I realize that racing for some teams is becoming more difficult as the season progresses on.

As an earlier email stated, there are quite a few big money events coming up and the payout is very good all the way through the field. For the payouts to remain this way they need your support. The entry fees go directly back into the payouts. Reading will be paying over 4800,West End is looking at basically the same payout and Kutztown's should top 4000. Shellhammers had a total payout at 5000.

West End, Kutztown and Shellhammers are 1 day races, where Reading is a 2 day affair for the All Stars, but they are allowing free camping on the grounds and also the pit passes allow fair admission which is 10 each day. A few tracks are looking at cutting back on their Slingshot schedules for 2011. 31 cars entered for Shellhammers with car counts waiting to be placed under the microscope for Reading and West End as well as Kutztown hoping to see a full pit area for the All Stars and Juniors. Special thanks to Hammer Down Dynos for their sponsorship of the West End National.

The Snack Bowl 25 at Atlantic City could not have been possible without the support of Herr's Snack Foods. For sponsors to continue to give back, they need a positive return for their money. Please thank your car sponsors and race sponsors whenever a chance comes by. Everyone will be affected by just the mention of their names.

Reading is offering 2 passes for any sponsorship of 50. For more info please check out www.rfrhs.com

The car count at Shellhammers has declined over the last few weeks. They have a decent weekly payout and have taken charge of the action on the speedway as well as scaling and teching to ensure that all teams are equal. They have even added the Junior Class for anyone looking for an alternative Sat. night track

Lindas Speedway has also seen car counts drop and they were one of the 2 best paying tracks for the Slingshots in the area. Lindas will be ushering in the Speedweeks for 2010 for their 4th year on Friday July 30th.Check it out, the big 1/4 mile really brings out the lead foots.

What is keeping race teams away from these tracks?

Borgers is seeing an increase in entries lately and that is a positive sign with Raidline / Heckman becoming very serious about the competitive nature of their entries. They are doing a great job in keeping the racing action moving and as is the case for many tracks, the more cars that are entered, the bigger the return will be at the end of the night.

Billy Maynard at WVMP goes beyond the books and will give unannounced bonuses to his racers and he also is continually striving to give the best possible racing surface for his entries.

OVDO is one tricky race track in Cuddebackville, NY. Their Saturday night programs are well run and move along at a quick pace. The end of the year special events draw quite an entry list.

Hamlin Speedway is currently riding the wave of popularity and Randy and Denise Smith currently have the best weekly payouts of any speedway. Their Super Class is continually growing and the Junior Class counts rival many tracks All Star counts.

Caroga Creek has one of the best racing surfaces anywhere and the track configuration is conducive to side-by side and 3 wide racing. Their Junior Class is always looking for new entries and the All Star Class has really seen some of the closest finishes of all classes run at the Ephratah, NY 3/16th mile.

Button Buck has been the place to be in the MN / IA area as the Queensland Family has given the teams a 1/5 mi clay oval that leaves the pedal down from green to checkered. Their Pee Wee Class has become a fan favorite with the young wheel twisters putting on some fabulous shows.

The Florida Teams are currently on their off season with temps climbing into the 100's regularly, it is virtually impossible for many tracks to maintain their speedways to give the cars the best surfaces to race on. With Dirt Devils becoming the hotbed of small car racing, the Sunshine Region racers will be back on the tracks in the middle of August.

Selinsgrove, Greenwood Valley and Paradise Speedway all give the Slingshots a different outlet during the touring season. Raceway Park at Selinsgrove is one of the best maintained speedways on the tour list with Greenwood Valley being very demanding with driver ability, having as much importance as the car set-ups. Paradise Speedway is one of the biggest tracks that Slingshots race on as the former modified track has been scheduling the Super Dirt Week National now for over 8 years with an entry list of over 40 cars 3 years ago.

Janelle and Kerry are working hard to make Kutztown the happening track with a mid-week abbreviated season that can only be described as one track tough to conquer. If you can win at Kutztown, you have really accomplished something. The addition of the Juniors was to give the younger racers a chance to get more seat time, race against some different teams and have a great chance to be named a champion with a successful season, but it seems many of the Junior teams have other plans on a Weds. night. The racing program is usually checkered by 9:15 still giving some of the farther away teams a chance to be home by midnight.

Accord Speedway took on the Slingshots 3 years ago and the current car counts are very encouraging with their Weds. night schedule seeing many of the locals mixing it up before heading off to their weekend home tracks.

With New Jersey Motorsports Park, Wachusett Park and Jolly Roger getting special dates along with Thunder Mtn, Penn Can and 5 Mile Point all including Slingshots in their plans, there aren't too many race teams that say they have to travel far to race.

All these tracks need support to survive, to keep giving you a place to race, if you feel that an occasional trip to one of these tracks is not for your team plans, that is fine, but when I keep getting emails saying there is nothing running or the money is not worth the efforts, I will beg to differ. I realize that there can only be 1 winner, but after 31 cars entered for the 2000 to win Spring Spectacular and a few years ago we had 42 car entered for the at the time 1200 to win Reading race and the next week there was 46 cars entered to win 250 at Kutztown, it is evident that money is not the deciding factor for many race teams.

Can someone please let me know why cars will still away from big money races, but beat and bang for a regular track payout and I will get with many of the tracks to see what their 2011 plans are regarding Slingshot racing.

To lose a speedway because of lack of entries is not a favorable sign. These tracks are taking the time and energy to give everyone track time. Please don't be the first one to complain if your favorite or closest track cuts back on their schedule. The tracks want to work with us and we want to work with you, they are offering more money than ever and also many of them are working to have the fairest field of cars possible. The Slingshots are a great moving up class for the younger speedstrs, it is also a great class for someone that just wanted to experience the thrill of wheel to wheel racing without sacrificing any of their possessions.

Look at the ages of our drivers, currently range from 6 to 88.There is NO class of racing today that can say that you can be just as competitive at any age of our drivers.

There are many writers and photographers that are willing to get your race team out in front of the racing public and non-fans as well. Please use them. It will help everyone.

This is not meant to be a negative post, but a state of the sport right now. Many classes are suffering and many tracks are searching for answers. Big track car counts are suffering as well, but it is the smaller car classes that should be seeing an increase with costs within reason to race regularly. For a 25,000 modified engine you can buy 3 Slingshots and comparing payoffs on a graded scale, the Slingshot return is much more profitable.

SLINGER WEEKEND RACE REPORT & MORE ..

Issue 63

Myerstown, PA -July 19th, 2010:  Looks like Mother Nature grabbed some midweek wins at Accord and Kutztown, but the rest of the weekend had some highly spirited racing with some new winners gracing victory lane. Congrats to Bobby Snyder, Jr on his first ever Slingshot win at Lindas on Friday night and Logan Shollenberger setting the pace at Shellhammers with AJ Gerhart taking the Junior win.

Justin Haas won at Caroga Creek with Brandon Berger notching an All Star win at Borgers with the Juniors putting on another good show. Car counts are increasing at Borgers and the action is coming along with the car counts. Up at Hamlin on Saturday the overflowing pits saw some great racing with Eddie Strada getting Junior win # 1 and Paul Ennes leading the 25 car Supers field to the checkers.

Remember that the early pre-entry for the 6th Annual Reading Nostalgia Nationals expires after midnight Saturday. This does not close out the entries just increases the prices for both the Juniors and All Star entry. Pit passes will stay the same price.

Wachusett Park and Jolly Roger Motopark are hoping to see some Slingshots this weekend for the Empire Region events scheduled. Last year over 4 inches of rain fell the day before these events and they still put a great racing surface out for the competition. This is the last Empire Region action before the August 11th Accord date.

Some teams took advantage of the Slingshot cap and t-shirt sale. I'll keep that going through the Reading event.

SLINGER NEWS ..

Issue 62

Myerstown, PA -July 16th, 2010:  Lindas Speedway will look to be race ready tonight with race time beginning at 7 PM.

To answer a few emails sent to Rich and a few calls to me and Rich about the Caroga Creek Junior National being moved. It was a decision that Rich made for me to change. Some teams, planning on racing at Kutztown and then make a 6 hour ride to Caroga felt that if there was damage from Kutztown could not properly repair the car ,go to work and be at Caroga the next night.

Rich got a few calls from Caroga teams asking about Kutztown and some Kutztown area teams were asking about Caroga. Hopefully everyone now has an equal chance to make both events as the All Stars will have a pre-lim Pit Stop Challenge the same night as the CC Junior National.

Some upcoming events are the Empire Region Tour races at Wachusett Park on the 23rd and Jolly Roger on the 24th. Button Buck will host an All Star National this Saturday with Linda's and Hamlin hosting the 1st 2 Speedweeks races on the 30th & 31st with those also being MA Silver events.

The top 5 in Speedweeks points will be paid this year. The total payout is higher over 5 drivers compared to the 10 driver payout in years past.

1. 325

2. 225

3. 175

4. 150

5. 125

You have 8 days yet to get your Reading Nostalgia National entry in before the higher fee kicks in. Postmarks of July 24th will be used for the early fee deadline. They can be obtained on the www.speedwayentertainment.com website along with anyone wanting to register for the West End Fair. The Thunder Mountain race on August 15th is still a go. I will be contacting NJMP regarding starting times for the August 14th Tri-oval event as the August 15th PSC 40 will be scheduled early so everyone can watch the ARCA event later that day.

I will try to clarify the Junior National Point System again to help make things easier.

33% Home track Final Point Standings

33% Junior National Tour Races

33% 2 Neutral Track Events (DunnHill 2 already run and Reading Aug 9th)

To make the thought process a lot easier. Teams that follow the currently scheduled 8 race Junior National circuit could suffer in the home track points, but since there was no other Junior National races scheduled on a Weds night, Kutztown and Accord would have offered everyone a chance to also get a great Home track points total. For the teams that only wanted to run the home track, you most likely will only get the tour race points if held at your track. The deciding factor will be the Neutral Track races which will add to the point totals.

Points for each of the 3 will be as follows:

If you win your home track points you will get 120 points, if you finish 10th you will get 70 points. The same system will also break down the other 2 methods. High point finisher in the Neutral Track Races will get 120 points as will the overall high point finisher from the Junior National Tour races.

It has been a pleasure watching some recent local dirt track races that have some Slingshot alumni in the field as Dan Nicholas, Kevin Albert, Billy Pauch, Jr. ,Sean Merkel, Anthony Perrego, Nate Christman, Kevin Smith, Joey Funk and Ebby Ridge to name a few have been mixing it up with the best in the business and grabbing the spotlight as well. Also congrats to Ben Whitaker on his recent LM win at Penn-Can as well as Ryan Smith wiring the ARDC field at Williams Grove.

The Slingshots are a great class to get the seat time, get the actual racing experience and hone your ability as a driver and in some instances also get the mechanical aspects of auto racing if that is what you are more dedicated in doing in all racing classes.

CAROGA CREEK, KUTZTOWN, WVMP, DUNN HILL 2, STAN AT 70 IS THE MAN,

ENTRY FORMS FOR WEST END & READING ON FRONT PAGE,

FINAL NOTICE TO REGISTER YOUR CARS FOR 2010 ..

Issue 61

Myerstown, PA -July 13th, 2010:  First off is the good news. Caroga Creek has been kind enough to reschedule their Junior National from August 20 to August 28th.They are also having a 2 day affair there that weekend. The Juniors are invited on August 27th for a test and tune feature event to get stagger, gear selection and other info for the Junior National to be held on the 28th of August. The All Stars will be having a 2 day affair that same weekend at Caroga Creek as Friday nights action on the 27th will feature qualifying for the August 28th All Star 77 lap event which will carry a pit stop at 1/2 way. This event has a $500 first place prize. This is not to be confused with the Sept 17th PSC 100. The Junior National will also be held at CC on the 28th. Race time for both nights begins at 7 PM. Now for the bad news. Kutztown has canceled for this evening July 14th.

From all reports from the weekend, the Junior National at WVMP might be the highlight event of the season with 2,3 and sometimes 4 cars running under a blanket and side by side for 10 laps without the rough stuff. Tyler Dippel put on quite a show with all Juniors getting a standing ovation from all the fans, friends and crews that watched the Junior National.

DunnHill2 wants to apologize for early race track conditions, but they were highly impressed with the A Mains and the speeds that the Slingshots can get on that size track. Congrats to Matt Dealaman and Matt Mertz for tour wins this weekend. Tyler Dippel was the winner of the Junior Main. Slingshot graduates Kaitie McCardle and Tyler Potts were part of the mix at DH2 with only 3 cautions stopping the action for the qualifiers and A Main. The DH2 Junior National was also part of the 1/3 point system, so currently Tyler, TJ Lilly, Michelle Campbell, Matt Gaughan and Alex Shaffer will be getting the added points towards the Great 8 Junior National title with Reading the second and final neutral track event scheduled. These points are also part of the overall Junior National title so with Reading ,Kutztown, Caroga Creek and Hamlin left on the docket anything can happen

There is now an entry form on the Slingshot website front page for both West End and Reading events. Please remember that postmarks are being used for late entries.

Some drivers seem to get better with age as Stan "The Man" Friedman took the Saturday Borgers win for a 70th birthday celebration.

This will be the last reminder. There are currently some teams that have not registered for 2010.If you win a track title, you will not be honored at the banquet and the first registered driver will be deemed the track champion by Speedway Entertainment. I'm also looking into redoing a track champions, regional tour and national tour t-shirt for 2010,but unregistered names will also be omitted from the shirts.

Randy and Denise Smith dodged the raindrops and got their Saturday show in with the story soon to be posted on the Slingshot website. I am hoping to have the Button Buck results up and running for the Great Lakes Region as soon as I receive them. I will be contacting Danny Sammons regarding the AC Indoor Classic's Snack Bowl 25. He has been looking at a new qualifying system, with time trials locking in a guaranteed amount of cars, much like Shellhammers Spring Spectacular.

Please remember to get your team info to Barry Angstadt at bwa39@comcast.net.

Many of the Junior Class parents want to follow the Junior Nationals at both Kutztown and Caroga Creek so in an effort to avoid a major scheduling conflict and have to worry about a 6 hour ride the next day, I'll see if CC can reschedule their Aug. 20th date.

Issue 60

Myerstown, PA -July 9th, 2010:  I have been getting a few phone calls regarding Slingshot rentals for the Reading Nostalgia Nationals. If anyone has a car that can be rented, I will let these people know or send it out in a group email.

There is a Slingshot By Tobias Racing Series Group on Facebook. I would really like to see more response and teams letting everyone know where they plan on racing or if they have a new sponsor or how their night at the weekly track or tour race went.

The Slingshots are also listed on www.virtualthunder.com where you can pick who you think will finish in the top 5 at a Slingshot Tour or major event.

Hats, visors and some T-shirts ($15 ea) are still for sale. I'll make my July special for these. Buy any 2 hat, visor or shirt (mix or match) and get the 3rd for $5.00.There are shirt sizes up to adult large right now. I also have some of the older gray t-shirts left (XXL only) that are on sale for $5.00.

Please remember that Lindas is canceled tonight and that Borgers has increased the payoff with a minimum car count for tonight.

Billy Maynard at Wyalusing is looking forward to tomorrow with great anticipation and will do what is required to put on a great racing program for the All Stars and Juniors.

Remember camping is available for anyone wanting to be nearby for the DunnHill2 race on Sunday.
